NZTC ARO (Advancing Remote Operations).

Improving engagement and tool integration.

The Net Zero Technology Centre wanted to build a tool to help understand how ready offshore rigs were for remote operations and technological advances.

They worked with multiple operators and providers, and each rig was different, so a tool was proposed to help operators understand which sets of initiatives and which technologies were suitable for their selected rigs.

Brainnwave had already put together an MVP platform for the Net Zero Technology Centre, but it had a number of shortcomings and in late 2024 we agreed to look at scoping out a phase 2 approach.

The work shown here is the assesment of the old platform and the design work put together to exemplify potential phase 2 solutions.

The required deliverables were a costings document, a set of top level designs and a proposal for the next phase of work.

The collaboration with Brainnwave has been instrumental in equipping us with the tools needed to drive the adoption of remote operations within the energy sector. This project has not only provided immediate operational benefits but also sets a strong foundation for future advancements in the industry.

Current state of affairs

User interviews had told us that visually, it didn’t feel quite right.

Once a scenario had been created with a facility, there were still lots of areas needing attention...

A product consultant had put together a spreadsheet with each line-item being an issue or feature needing addressed. Items were as far ranging as general changes like “improve overall look and feel” to specific changes like “form field addition in scenario creation process”.

I worked through each of the line items, and addressed them with a suite of new designs in Figma.

Any implied structural change was given context, and any elements where an expandable section was present was designed both open and closed.
